Design - Human Factors and Ergonomics Internship/Co-Op (Summer 2020)

About the Team
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of excellence and a working knowledge of occupant packaging, human factors, ergonomics, and engineering design. Key objectives will be to achieve high spatial efficiency and excellent ergonomics whilst meeting all relevant legislative requirements. He/she will be a natural problem solver, intuitive 3D thinker, competent CAD user, and capable of taking responsibility for the occupant package and ergonomic performance of future production vehicles. 

The ability to fit into small and highly motivated multi-functional teams is essential. The role offers the rare opportunity to work on a team that handles ownership and development of new and genuinely cutting-edge vehicles. Enthusiasm and knowledge of cars is advantageous, and you must have a genuine passion for engineering the best electric vehicles in the world. 

What to Expect
The successful candidate must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and have the ability to work independently.

Typical job duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Work to develop, validate, organize and maintain vehicle occupant package, ergonomic criteria, and processes 
  • Work with engineering, styling and program management to implement optimum package ergonomic solutions for production vehicles
  • Perform digital and physical assessments of criteria against styling and engineering proposals. 
  • Develop and run focus studies to establish ergonomic compliance 

Requirements
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ergonomic Engineering, or an equivalent degree 
  • Experience in occupant packaging, human factors, or ergonomics is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of CAD software, preferably CATIA v5 
  • Knowledge of Catia HumanBuilder, CAVA, and RAMSIS is preferred. 
  • Experience or understanding of rapid fabrication method experiences, such as 3D printing and hand fabrication. 
  • Any experience liaising between automotive stylists, clay modelers, studio management, vehicle engineers, manufacturing engineers, and marketing teams is a plus. 
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with external and internal teams at all levels across the company 
  • An understanding of automotive engineering guidelines, laws and regulations, manufacturing techniques, both domestic and international from experience in automotive product development lifecycles
