Workforce Development Internship

Denver Economic Development and Opportunity is seeking 2 Interns for immediately hire.  We are looking to fill these positions immediately and the position will last through mid-August.  Hours can be flexible around the student's school schedule and tends to run between the hours of 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.  Denver Economic Development and Opportunity - Workforce Services serves as a comprehensive employment and training resource for employers, job seekers, TANF recipients, veterans, and youth throughout Denver. Having created a strong collaboration with contractors, we connect job seekers with needed skills to secure sustainable employment, and we connect employers with a trained and ready workforce.

We are looking for Summer Interns to assist youth to enhance their strengths and improve job skills.  The internship will function as a job coach and provide mentorship to the youth through the entire process.  This position will require the interns to have a willingness to assist youth in obtaining and utilizing resources to enhance their future career potential.  The intern will need to assess youth strengths and interests and determine what program best suits the youths' strengths, skill, and interests.  Interns may work with youth between the ages of 14-24 who participate in Denver Summer Youth Employment Programs.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to experience:
  • Interview and assess youth strengths for placement within a variety of summer youth job programs
  • Collect youth employment information and program applications for summer job participants
  • Develop effective job coach and employment plans
  • Communicate with students to understand current job interests and future career goals
  • Assist summer youth students with resources to overcome personal barriers and set employment and life goals
  • Assist with coordination of job fairs
  • Assist with payroll procedures
  • Make calls to youth and employers
  • Community outreach to a variety of youth employment programs and organizations
  • Assist with coordination of SYEP events
  • Develop marketing materials/plans for various events
  • Database management
  • Assist with data collection and summary report writing

Our ideal candidate will have/be: 
  • A current student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Human Resources or related field
  • Have previous work experience working with youth
  • Proficient in MS Office Products (Excel, Word)
  • Experience using database software and quick to learn technology
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detailed-oriented
  • Enthusiasm and passion in development of youth
  • Demonstrate critical and analytical thinking skills
  • Possess excellent customer service
  • Ability to work with diverse populations from all walks of life
  • Proven track recorder of taking initiative or is a self-starter
  • Able to collaborate and work well with others on projects
  • Ability to organize, plan, & execute events

  • Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program including a community college, leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion)

  • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
