Building Systems Engineering Internship - Denver International Airport

The Facilities Services section at DEN is seeking an Architectural/Engineering Intern to learn from the inside out what it takes to maintain and run a major international airport. This person will perform entry-level architectural or engineering work in the Facilities department. The position will be involved in a multitude of different projects. If you are a current student who enjoys variety and who is interested in learning how an airport operates in a variety of conditions and situations, and how various roles plug in to the organization, this may be a fantastic opportunity to lay the groundwork for your future career.

This is an on-call position with an expected start date of June 1st, 2019 and an end date of August 7th , 2019.  This position is expected to work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.

As an intern you will get to experience the following:
  • Assist in compiling data for architectural project programming and business cases
  • Assisting in performing field investigation and verification
  • Assist in compiling data for architectural plans, design standards, specifications, cost estimates, reports, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of contract drawings for new and alteration projects
  • Conducts periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with detailed design documents
  • Prepares quantitative data (e.g. material take-offs) to support construction cost estimates
  • Monitors project scope development and changes, tracking adjustments to the projected project construction cost
  • Supporting engineer and/or project manager on various meetings and projects as needed
  • Assist in team meetings by documenting meeting minutes and preparing action items for team review and communication
  • Coordinate permits with the developmental services and Denver Fire Department (DFD)
  • Document mechanical and electrical systems and DEN historical documents for research
  • Research, analyze, and calculate data such as airflow, lighting loads, power trends, etc.
  • Participate in construction meetings

Our ideal candidate will have/be:
  • Minimum of a sophomore standing or higher pursing a degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Project/Construction Management, Mechanical/Electrical/Life Safety Engineering, or a related field 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • A self-starter with the capacity to take initiative
  • Positive attitude
  • Critical thinker with a strong attention to detail
  • A successful track record of being dependable, reliable, and focused
  • Proven successful at working collaboratively with others as well as working independently
  • Proficient in MS Office Suites
  • Exposure to Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Primavera software tools is desirable
  • Ability to hold an airport ID badge
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).
  • Experience Requirement: None
  • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • License/Certification Requirement: By position, may require a valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment.
